Default circle track cam?

I'm looking for a roller cam that must have a "smooth" idle with good performance. going in a 374 ci 340 stroker motor. 7200 rpm's max (by MSD chip), 13.4 compression, 500cfm 2brl carb. w-2 heads. There is a .458 max lift rule, but as long as it sounds smooth it will be ok. What do you guys reccomend?

Thanks

yes I agree in a custom ground cam, however I think your gonna have a difficult time getting a cam with enough duration and that small of lift, to make any power at 7200, and still idle smooth. Also what kind of limiting rules do they make to camshafts, that they will let you run W-2 heads, and have 13.5.1 comp ratio?.....

Sounds like a job for a roller cam with some crazy long duration for the RPM sought. It's doable.

Exclamation I disagree...............

Oval track cams are different. If you want 7200 rpm, you will have to have some duration. I'd guess about 288/292 degrees ( old spec's ) and even then it will be tight. You can get a cam ground with only .425 lift but it will have to have the duration to turn the rpms. Problem is that it won't sound stock. The roller will help out by 15/20% on the sound but this is still the problem the OLD super stockers had. If it sounds too good, you will get torn down and inspected. Use to - you had to sell your motor for a set price if protested. Not sure what todays rules are.

At 374 CID you're close to the 383's we used to run, and they did not like the 2BBL at 6000 let alone 7200. You did not mention the stroke, but if you are at 4000 FPM or over piston speed you have another problem. It takes good (read that as expensive) stuff to live at that level for any length of time. Set it up for grunt (take advantage of the torque) out of the corner and limit it to the 6000-6500 range. You and the engine will both be happier.
