I have an '88 Dakota 3.9, and I'm looking for some good solid performance for the street. I don't want to spend an arm and leg on this, I want a good increase in speed for my money. I would like some input on what to do first, just some suggestions?
Thanks, Andy

I helped a buddy of mine with a 3.9. We added headers, Edelbrock manifold, 390 cfm 4-brl. carburator, slightly more cam, and I did some pocket porting on his heads . This really woke up his little motor. He no longer has to down shift going up hills, it pulls his camper with aurority and accelerates much better. Now he wants to look at putting a blower on it. It would be cheaper to buy 318,340,360 rebuild and stick it in using factory parts. If all you want is a little more power, these motors respond to everything a V8 does. Don't expect to get V8 power from a modified V6 . It can be done but a V8 has more room to grow. They may be heavier but I can't think of any weight I would rather add than two more cylinders.
