Default Best plug wires for headers

I've got some mopar performance wires on it now. They failed on me and the boots melted easily. I don't use the truck much so the wires aren't really that old. I need to replace them as I am developing misfires now related to wires. I've replaced a few with some used Standard wires I had laying around.

So which ones are best? I'd like to use Napa Belden wires. Maybe some heat wrap to protect the boots. What do you think?

All you need is the plug wire boots. You can get them from Summit Racing. My local Advance Auto carriers them now. They are made by DEI.

I use Taylor 100% silicone wires (resists up to 600 F) along with DEI plug wire sheaths.

The best wires are the ones with the lowest resistance. Period.

The ends of the wires need to be a variable end. Bendable. You can pick up these wire ends in single or multi pac's from Summitt/Jegs. They should be an easy find under MSD, but other companys should also have them.

An EXCEELNT tool to have for installing the new boots and metel ends on wires is the MSD tool, a wire crimper. Great item. Love mine, worth every penny.

Also, on small blocks, due to the drivers side, #3 or #5 tube, (Damn, which is it again) that cross' right infront of the spark plugs, a sleeve to protect them is a great idea. I picked up ones from Thermo Tech. Theres multiple brands out there for this item.

It's #3 and the boot sleeves are a must. I'e had the ones from DEI ride right on the header tubes before and never burned through. Can't beat that with a stick.

High-dollar but in some cases the only real solution is the Jacobs wires with the ceramic plug boots and their heat sleeves for the cables. Pushing 25 years on my sister's GM chassis(454) Airstream motor home with headers. Her engine compartment is tight(biggest understatment in the world), and the headers are right against the 454's plugs. Also pulled the HEI coil out of the distributor that was breaking down at altitude in Colo. and put a Jacobs coil on the frame rail. I did it a year or two before her husband died, and that was '83, so it's been more than 25 years. Maybe a dozen trips in it. But you won't melt those ceramic ends.

I like Taylors. The MP (non-resto wires) are also made by Taylor, & I've had no problems with those. I agree that if the wires are to close to the header tubes to get some plug boots. I've seen them @ Napa in pkgs of 2. The new Napa Belden premium wires are nice though. That's what I put on the fleet vehicles at work & have had no problems with them except that the field mice think that the silicone jackets taste great! lol

The resistance in the wire only has a very small impact on the energy in the spark and whether the wire is 50 ohms per foot or a 1000 ohms per foot is not something you should get hung up on. The marketing folks that produce the sales literature will tell you otherwise.

As far as wire routing on cylinders 5 & 7 where the #3 tube crosses the best thing to do is use a multiangle boot (one that is bendable) or formed 90 degree and route the wires under the header tube and use the heat sleeve on these two.
