Default Hedman ceramic headers

I have recently bought a 71 Cuda 440 tribute/clone which has been fitted with ceramic coated headers. On the left side they are almost touching the torsion bar and power steering box.Can they be heated up and massaged to give a little clearance,as when going over uneven road surfaces they are knocking on the said two parts. Will heat and hammering do any damage to the headers? Car was originally a 318 but had 440 fitted during restoration which was done last year just before it was shipped over to the UK.

Heating the coating hot enough where it will be mallable will burn the coating. If you hit it without heat you may be able to get enough clearance to be helpful but you may crack the coating. This is why it's advisable to get uncoated headers then fit and adjust before the coating is applied. -Bob

You could also try loosening the engine and trany mounts to reposition the headers away from interference and then tighten them up to lock it in place. Or go with solid to ensure no movement.

I am not a fan of restricting air flow if there could be other alternatives.

Default mounts

I wonder if the mounts are old and collapsing? Try new mounts, then if necessary, put a torque strap on the engine. This may alleviate the positioning of the block from torque and bumps.

Thanks for the tips guys.Have just had the car on a four post lift and the engine mountings dont look too bad but are certainly not new ones. Will fit new ones and see if that does the trick. Was unsure if taking a hammer to ceramic headers was wise
