Can anyone recommend a good tonneau cover for my Dakota R/T? The Mopar one looks pretty good but costs $800. Does anyone have a Checkmate cover?

The ARE is nicer than the Mopar Performance cover, but be prepared to spend $800 for one with matched paint. The quality is very high.

I don't own one from Checkmate, but have read several posts either here or other truck sites that says people are disappointed in the quality / finish.

If you want a soft cover, - IMO - Downey SS/T is the best.

Leer and ARE are top notch quality. But like was mentioned in the other post - they cost.

Then again, you get what you pay for.

Food for thought. No sense in buying something now and regretting the purchase later, wishing you had saved a little more and gone for the real deal. I learned that lesson the hard way.

Sounds like $800 or so is about right then. The Checkmate sounded too good to be true at $300. The Mopar one is $800 and painted to match the truck.

Thanks for the advice.

I have a "Precision" hard cover on my SS/T, and I am very happy with it. I spent about $650 for it. They only come in black and white, so you would have to get it painted. I spent around $400 to have it painted with the stripes, so if you can find one that comes already painted I would go for it.
Just something to think about.
