I just installed a Cobra 18ST-WX radio in my truck. I have dual whips that I dialed in under 2 on the SWR meter. My problem is that I'm picking up the engine RPMs while driving. I have taylor wires and champion truck plugs with a MSD ignition and coil. Are one of these the cause of interference? What about installing a NR unit on the radio's power supply? Any suggestions on which to use?

I don't know if this will help or not, but it may be your ignition. I had NGK's with magnecor's on and any station on my radio between 94.7 and 95.9 would pick up my engines rpm's at a certain level, kinda like what youre describin. When I got my Jacob's and installed that with the ultra suppression wires, the problem was gone. You can either find out what part of your ignition is causin it( if it is the ignition system), or just live with it like I did for a few years. Although my ex got pretty pissed sometimes cause her favorite radio station was 95.5, right in the middle of the problem. I had to keep my truck revved up anytime time I was at a stop to keep her pleased (glad I don't have that problem anymore).

After checking it out further, I think my interference is comming from the alternator. I'm goint to run a braided ground strap from the battery to the firewall and install an inline supressor with the radio's power supply. Radio Shack.....here I come!
