Default Vacuum pump?

Can you put a vacuum pump on any engine, or does the engine have to have special rings? I've heard they can give you another 25 to 30 hp.

Are you talking about pumping out the crankcase? That's about the only thing I can think of that would even maybe increase HP.

Race engines run a vacuum pump that keeps a vacuum/negative pressure in the crank case, so the pistons are not moving against air. Adds power to engine. Jegs and Summit carry them I think.

thought that might have been what you were talking about. I can't say if its worth the effort or not, I've never tried it. I know they also used to use a hose connected from the crankcase to the collector of the headers to help scavenge gasses and reduce the pressure inside the crankcase.Might be a cheaper way of getting a smaller measure of the same effect.

If its 25 to 30 hp for $400, that might be worth it. But I think you need to use special piston rings.
