lifter bore cl s/b
hi anyone know how much cl u should have in the lifter bore ? or how much is too much ?
i have a eng that i will be taring down shortly that we suspect has to much ware in the lifter bore ! anyone had the bore's bushed before ? very expensive to do ? thanks David |

Tappet clearance is .001 to .0015. If you are going to maintain a hydraulic cam/tappets, you cannot bush the bores. The bushings will prevent the flow of oil. It's not cheap to have the bushings done right. You would be better off getting a junk yard block.

Ed, what is your opinion on reaming the bores and fitting O/S lifters?

If you do a Google search, you might find where Chrysler has offered O/S lifters in the past. Most recently, for the V10.

If you can find them, it could be a good idea. The problem is still the cost of getting the block machined (properly) for them. Not all machine shops are setup to do this, so it tends to be an over priced service. If you have a numbers matching car then it is probably worth the expense. If not, you may want to look for another block.

i agree if it turns out to be a cl prob i will most likely get another block !
this is a circle track race eng ! so numbers match is no issue lol ! thanks for the help and advise ! David |
