Default mirada shaking....?

Hey guys,

I've got a 1980 mirada that had a stock 318 in it. I recently replaced it with a 360 with j-heads, 4 barrel and a mild lunati voodoo cam. I did not have the engine balanced. when i did the engine swap, i replaced the rubber k-member bushings with the solid aluminum ones from Mancini. Well the car now has a very noticeable shake to it. When the car is idling, the motor looks like its running smooth as can be but if you sit in the interior it feels pretty bad.

My question is; does anybody have any experience with the solid aluminum k-member bushings? do they usually make the car shake like that? Ehrenburg said they make the car rattle less, is that just B.S. or what? any info would be helpful at this point. thanks felllas

Did you change the torque converter on the transmission? 318's are internally balanced engines 360's for the most part are externally balanced which may explain the shaking.

All 360's are external balanced from the factory. 318's cast & forged crank are internal balanced. Yup, the torque converter & the damper if recycled from the 318 need to be changed, or you can have the proper weight welded onto the converter for the 360 as well.

Default Flex plate

You have to change the TC anyway, I'd put in an SFI approved flex plate from B&M while you're in there.

I think ya could weld the balance weight tab on right in the car. Only 2 spot welds, not that much heat for the converter. I think Mopars makes a kit for that, lines up with the drain plug. Much easyer than changing converter or flex plates.

I beleive B&M sells the flex plate with the correct balance so you don't have to worry about the weight on the converter, Qwik time has also started selling the balance weight like the external balance weights on the chevy motors, thin plate that goes on the crank.

either a B&M flexplate for an external balance, or the new quiktime blance weight that can be bolted on. Or get the weights off a 360 converter and weld them on each side of the drain plug, you can do that in the car. Just put the drain plug to the bottom and weld the weights on. Easy.

All you have to do is to to get the B&M flex plate and isntall it in place of the stock flex plate. Then the converter that you have will work. Or get a converter with weights on it for a 360. DON'T do both. Do not use a weighted 360 converter with a B&M 360 flex plate.
But like the rest have said here lies your vibration problem.

Make sure that you get your converter for an external balanced 360 and that it has weights on it. Other wise just go to a JY and get a used 360 converter and take the converter that you have and lay them side by side to locate where the weights go and take the wights off the JY converter and tack weld them to your present converter. Not a big deal. MP also sells a weight kit to usee for this purpose but it is rather spendy for what you get and the kit contains weights for all the external balancing for 400's and 340' cast shaft engines. you don't need all this. By far the simplest is to get the B&M converter then you won't have the problem and can use any neutrally balanced converter without the weights.
