Default Differences between a A518 and a Jeep 46RH?

I have been hunting a good A518 to transplant a AOD tranny into my '85 Ramcharger. So far no luck but I have has a few guys with Jeep 46RH tranny respond.
I know internally they are pretty much the same. But there are some other differences like the starter is on the passenger side. I don't know if the transfer case (a NP208) would bolt up. the 46RH would have been bolted to a NP249 (full time AWD case). I don't know if the spline count on the output shaft is the same. If it is doable I found a guy that has a rebuilt one for sale very reasonable price.

Any ideas?

I belive the 46 is all electronic controlled. You don't want that. Try to find a 92 to 94 4wd 518. The easy way to tell is the newer electronically controlled tran has a big (8 pin connector, I think) and the older ones just have electronics for the TC and OD that will have a small flat 3 pin connector that plugs in from the top just behind the manual lever.

WRONG. There are 2 version. The 46RH and the 46RE. The RE is the all electronic version which is for from '96 and up with the advent of OBD II.
The 46RH is a hydraulic shift version with only a solenoid for converter lockup and OD engagement. The electrical connection is 3 pin. One for 12V, one for converter lockup, and one for OD engagement.

WRONG!

LOL!

No thanks. I don't have that kind of money for this project. I would like to get the whole project done for under $500. Just need to find someone parting out a truck that has what I need.

I don't know many car guys that can afford to lay out that kind of bread on a project. Heck if I had that kind of bread, I would take it to a shop and have someone do the conversion for me.
While I'm dreaming, I will just go down to the local Dodge dealership and pick up a '09 Hemi quad cab truck and be done with it.

As far as I know all A500's have a lock-up torque converter. The A500 was renamed in the early 90' as a 42RH. This tranny is based off the A904.

The early A518's didn't have lockup torque converters they latter ones did. The A518 was renamed 46RH at the same time the A500 was renamed. The A518 is based off the 727.

If they are THE SAME then that is good news. The only thing I would be leery of is the spline count of the output shaft since there is a big difference in the duty rating of the transfer cases.

Not funny at all, actually it's pretty sad when a self-proclaimed "guru" rejects provable fact in favor of myth and admonishes someone for correcting another's error.
