dash numbers are 1/16" ie -8= 1/2" refers to tube id.

Question info

well i'm looking at a holly 4 bbl 750-770cfm area, fuel pump i dont know prob some high volume mechanical pump, and no more than 7000rpm max. prob only 6000rpm area, but for a pretty good length of time.

so -8 is 1/2
do they work like a shotgun? meaning bigger number smaller diam?
-10=3/8??

Here ya go - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN_thread
Quote:
AN sizes range from -2 (dash two) to -32 in irregular steps, with each step equating to the OD (outside diameter) of the tubing in 1/16" increments. Therefore, a -8 AN size would be equal to 1/2" OD tube (8 x 1/16 = 1/2). However, this system does not specify the ID (inside diameter) of the tubing because the tube wall can vary in thickness. Each AN size also uses its own standard thread size.

Anything near 500 hp, 3/8". Depending on hp level & vehicle usage, line dia. could be as high as 1/2".
