Torqueflite air pressure tests
I am doing the air pressure checks on my TF999 rebuild. Servo tests seem good. But I have a question on the clutch tests. Front clutch I can hear a small thud , seems to be operating ok. Rear clutch, same thing, operating good, but I am getting some air coming out of the "To converter" port which is near the rear clutch test port, and also some air out the end of the small shaft in the bellhousing (same circuit as the converter port).
If I put a finger over the "to converter" port and the shaft I get a sound difference, makes it quieter. Not a huge amount of pressure but there is some air flow. My service manual says to check for "excessive" air leakage. Not sure how to define "excessive". I did use ATF to lube all pistons etc during assembly. Is the test supposed to be completely airtight or is a little leakage ok? |

Try pouring some fluid down the ports before doing the air check, it will help the rings seal better.
The slight amount of air that leaks past the sealing rings during the test has to go somewhere, either into the case or out the other ports or front shaft. |
