Early heads... fit on late engines?
I have a friend who has purchased some Edelbrock heads with a view to putting them onto a 360 engine. They are for the earlier series of 360...
He's now wondering if they will fit the later series, the ones with roller rockers etc. Could you guys please advise? |

If you use hollow push rods or drill the block for oiling to the head/valve train.

of corse an LA intake manifold for the LA style heads.

Do you really think you can oil the shafts through the pushrods? As far as I've understood, drilling of the block is the only way. And I wouldn't want to try to drill those holes. If he has got a magnum engine, I would sell those LA heads and buy Edelbrock magnums instead.

no... too many buddy wise'rs last night my apologies.
Even funnier than that is when I read, at fabo, I guy saying 'oh just use the head as a guide to drill the block' .....HA HA drill bits don't bend like swizzle straws... Anyone ever heard of plumbing...... |

OK, this is the deal, Ealry Edelbrock heads designed for a
"A" engine to be used on a later roller motor. The problem is..... is this roller motor a "A" or Magnum engine? For a roller "A" engine, just use as is, no issue. For a Magnum engine, you'll need to drill the block for the oil passage. Oil comes up through the block, through the head into the rocker shaft stands and runs through the shaft out the holes in the shaft to the rockers. The Magnum engine does not have the oil hole drilled , though it can be done. Then you'll need to have the correct lifters, not for a Magnum, but for a "LA" engine and the pushrods to go with it. Rockers and shaft of course, as well. IF the heads are new, un-used, return them or re-sell or trade them for Magnum heads, then you can bolt them on and go with the proper Magnum style intake. |

My friend is here in Australia... all of this stuff is special import to us, not available generally...
He mentioned late model roller rockers... or was that roller cam? Anyway, I don't know if it's a Magnum or not. Were there roller cams (as standard) in engines other than Magnums? It's a 360 LA by the way. |

Yes, 360's were roller engines from I think, again, I think as early as 1988. And until the change went over to Magnum heads. 1991 92 would be the last year for a
"LA" 360 engine. |
