Is the 2000 catalog out yet? My local Chrysler dealer says he doesn't know when it will be. Everytime I call Mopar Performance, the line is either busy or no one answers. It's still (248) 853-7290, right? You'd think the 2000 catalog would've been out late last year. I'm probably the only one who doesn't have it yet.

Speedy:
From what I've heard about the original 1961-1962 Hyper-Pak, the 170 /6 was rated at 148 hp, and the 225 at 195 hp. I've heard that the 225 was underrated, but 270 seems pretty high, even in gross numbers. Would be great if it were true. I don't think the cam was a 268/0.460", not sure what it was.
What a coincidence about the /6! Over the weekend, I called a guy who had an ad in the MCG, and he has a '69 /6 he might want to get rid of. I said I might get it, and see what a /6 can do given the proper parts to work with. He lives only a few miles from me, too. I'll have to watch for the next MCG issue, and see that Hyper-Pak article. I called Clifford Performance last week, and they say they have 15 in stock, $395.00 for it. Including the block to manifold brace.

tim it was 276-268-44* 430lift i looked it up i think the long duration threw me off.$395 SEEM'S high but it damn near go's all the way to the fender, was it aluminum or cast?I Think the Offe's 4bbl intake is $200/250 i see it all the time at the swop meet at the state fair every year.it's aluminum.i was wondering if the 2bbl linkage would work on it though?I'VE seen the 2-2bbl manifolds also i thought that would be cool with 2-bbd's.

Speedy:
The new Clifford copy of the Hyper-Pak intake is both aluminum and cast. It's cast aluminum. Twin 2 bbls. might be interesting, but I think it might not be worth the trouble to set them up, at least on a street car. I'd go for a small 4 bbl. and be done with it.
Even though it costs $395, I'd still get it because (1.) it's a Hyper-Pak, and (2.) it would freak everyone out who ever sees under the hood!
I think the original Hyper-Pak used a 625 AFB carb, but I'm not sure about that, either.
We've got to start another /6 page, the HEADS OR TAILS one is getting full. How about one called "Speedy and Tim's Slant Six page" or something like that?

I'm pretty sure that Clifford's Hyper-Pak repros are the left over stock of a batch that Doug Dutra cast a few years ago. There's an Australian Valiant Ute (pickup) running around Atlanta (Bayer Boys) with one of these intakes. Air cleaner clearance is a problem with this intake, as the carb sits very close to the hood.

The passages are long for two reasons: ram effect, and the branches can be made more equal length.

The hyper pack kit included intake, AFB carb, cam, pushrods, valve springs, dual (split) exhaust manifolds, Y headpipe, muffler and tailpipe, HD clutch, and linkages. These parts were not available from Chrysler separately but only in a kit which cost $403.30 not including installation. The kit did not include special pistons, although the hyper-packs which had dominated the compact class at Daytona in 1961 had 10.5:1 pistons.
The cam was made by Racer Brown (remember him?) and could be purchased separately from his company.

For more info, there are a fair number of old articles and road tests on hyper packs. Search eBay for these mags if you want to read them; there's a lot of people selling old car mags and they can be bought pretty cheaply.

Car Life, April 1961 has a road test of a 225 hyper-pack Lancer. With a three speed stick and 3.91 gears, it ran 16.4 at 80.

Hot Rod, April 1960 has an article titled "Clash of the Compacts." Valiants, equipped with 170 hyper-packs and high compression pistons, "slammed through two Valiant victories so decisive that there was no doubt who was packing the biggest load among the compacts." These motors were dynoed at 181 horsepower and would rev to 7,000 rpm.

Hot Rod, July 1960, has an article on Ram Induction, devoting considerable space to the hyper pack. Has a good picture of the motor.

The March/Spring 1993 issue of the Slant 6 News has a good writeup about hyper packs.

Oh yeah, Offenhauser introduced two dual carb intakes for the Slant 6 back in 1961, and yes there is an article about this in the January 1961 issue of Hot Rod. One was a dual ONE barrel intake, while the other a dual TWO barrel intake. I've never seen a dual 2 bbl intake, but I've seen several dual 1 bbl intakes. Last time I checked, these were still available new.

Speedy, I purchased one of the Offy 4bbl intakes from JC Whitney. I think I paid $175. Mine was for a 65 Valiant, and it came with the proper linkage kit for that year (rod). I am not sure if the runners are the big ones like the MOPAR Performance 2bbl model. I ran a 390 cfm Holley vac sec carb on my /225, with the Clifford Block Hugger street rod headers. It ran great.
Butt with your project, after opening up your heads, you are going to need good cam lift and more carb to take advantage of the porting. 268/460 and a 500cfm afb sounds good - but if you milled your heads - you might have to go with those bore notches. Especially with bigger valves. You might have to cut bigger/deeper valve reliefs in your pistons also.
You just can't do a motor project cheap, can you?
Hey, could you make me one of those heads too?

say carbkit Tim and i have started a new /6 page because are heads or tails got to long but as long as i don't go over 290* of duration the pistons should be ok I set a 1.780 intake valve in the head to see how much room i had and i could even go larger if needed .but i think any larger would be a waist because my theory is to match the bowl size to the valve like a tube all the way to the port so that would give me a ram effect into the cylinders.BUT i'm sure we could show you how to do up your head .
