Question

I have a 3.9L in my new 4x4 Dakota. It almost seems to be a bit wimpy. What is the best and least expensive way to "UP" the horsepower?

Welcome to the list!

Think of your 3.9 as a 5.2 (318) with 2 cylinders cut off...which it is.

Start out with a cold air intake, then check into either a hi flow muffler, or a cat-back exhaust system. Do not go with a large diameter exhaust system...it will kill low end power.
From there you can go with a good set of headers. Performance ignition system. The list can go on and on.
If you have the money, there's alway's superchargers.

Good luck,
Jeff C.

Welcome my fellow 6er. The QuickD throttle body is the best mod I've gotten so far. I also recommend an intake, QuickD, K&N, and Mopar (I've never heard bad comments on these units). My JBA headers come in at a very close second for performance improvement. This is also the only company that makes headers for the 3.9L. You don't need to buy a cat-back system, your 2.5" piping is the perfect size. A muffler change is recommended. You won't FEEL a performance difference, but a deeper and throaty sound is worth it! The 40 series Flowmaster sounds sweet on the v6. I'll keep this short, but the list goes on and on. I've done quite a bit of research on what's available.
