Just thought I would let any 4.7 owners know what was going on with the MP PCM.
I check every day at work the status on the PCM for the 4.7 Delivery shipment status was changed from 10/13/00, it now shows 11/10/00. I don't think that I would plan on seeing these units for quite some time. I don't like being the bearer of bad news, but I thought it might be something some of you would be interested in. I'm really wishing they would get their act together! The stock pcms are on back order also. I wonder if that's why they can't make the performance models? The stock pcm they gave me when my original one went out is screwed up. My truck is now getting 12 mpg and is VERY slow feeling compared to before. I took it to the track and it is running right at 16.0s @ 85 mph! I "borrowed" a buddy of mine's stock pcm out of his '00, 4.7 sport automatic and it instantly ran 15.20s @ 88 mph. He was complaining that his is slow now that he had it flashed to retard the timing (because his was pinging). All I know is that I want another friggin' pcm! I'm sick of driving a gas-hog again....that's also going slow!!!
Duner '00, CC, 4.7 Sport, 5-speed, 3.92s 14.87 @ 91 mph (yeah right....not lately!) |

Thought I would send a PCM update.
Not good news at all, I checked the system today at work. They removed the supplier ship commitment date all together... They still show -40, and I believe 58 due from the supplier, but I have NO idea when they will ship. As I find out information, I will let everyone know. It looks like if they ever get the Mopar Performance PCM out for these 4.7s they will really be a BIG improvement. A guy on the DML (who has a '00, RC 4.7 Sport, 5-speed) gave up on waiting for the pcm. He sent his computer to Leach Performance to have it re-flashed. WooHoo! His truck definately flys!
He managed to get a 14.23 @ 94.49 with it over the weekend. His mods to date are a homamade air intake, flowmaster cat-back, the Leach PCM, 180 degree T-stat, slicks & traction bars! No internal mods at all! If they don't get the Mopar PCM out soon, I'll just send my computer to Leach! |

Ok guys, i was wondering about this new PCM. I heard or read somewhere that this new high performance module would require you to run a higher octane of gas?!?!? Is this true??? also i was wondering if anyone could tell me approximately how much this new module costs and where or how you can when they finally come out where to obtain one??? thanks john.

The Mopar Performance PCM does require premium fuel, as does any PCM upgrade. The reason is simple...they advance the timing to give you more power, hence you need higher octane to prevent preignition spark knock.
The MP unit's can be ordered from your local dealer, or save some money and order from some of the internet suppliers. I believe I have seen them advertised at just about $300.00. Ok i have another question here....premium fuel as in 89 or 93 octane??? Also since you upgrade the PCM, then do you throw out what they say about using high octane fuel with this engine???? they say you can damage this engine with high octane fuels.....something i really don't want to do!!!

91-93 octane is normally required.
They don't want you using high octane in normal situation's because it can cause excess build up on the valves.
