Default 4sp tail shaft seals and speedo questions

I have a 23 spline A-833 4sp in my plymouth coupe. The guy i bought my trans from said that the case is from a 67 the gears are 1970 and its all from a 340 dart. (that's not right) Now in my head I thought that this was a short tail 4sp. Looking at some e-mails that I have I was calling it a long tail 4-sp. Anyhow the 4sp that I put in the car was the same length as the 904 that I pulled out. I didn't change the yoke or the length of the drive shaft. The tail shaft seal is leaking and I can't fined the correct seal.

When I bought this trans it didn't come with the speedometer adapter or pinion (part that bolts into the side of the trans) so I used the one from the 904 to plug the hole. The gear inside the trans is there but the speedo never did work. So are the pinion gears different lengths from a auto to a manual trans? Need help on this one.

I'm going to call Brewer's performance but I would like to save some time sitting on the phone.

Thanks,
40Coupe

The tail shaft seal should have a part # on it to look up a new seal. The speedo gear will clock in 4 different ways, for different speedo gear sizes. Can't remember if they are a different length.....

If the yoke fitted the 904, the 904 seal will fit the A833...

A-body A833s came with both sizes of output shaft and seal, so yours is a 26-spline as on the 904. As mentioned, try turning the body of the speedo drive to 'clock it in' to mesh with the worm on the shaft. Pretty sure they're also the same 904 to A833 (and 727, and A230).

You'll need to remove the speedo pinion adapter and count the number of teeth on the gear, then install the adapter according to the number of teeth stamped in the adapter housing, the pic below shows the position of the adapter.
