My son owns a 2000 Dakota 4x4 QC. Within 12000 miles he had problems with the front disk brake rotors warping. They were turned by the dealer at no cost. He now has 27,000 miles and the problem has reappeared. This time no help from Chrysler because he is over 12,000 miles. Has anyone else had a similar problem.

Jfuller, i have warped my rotors 4 times in my dakota R/T(probably from slowing down at the dragstrip!), but i never had a problem with the warranty. He should still be able to get them fixed.

Cool

Sorry to say, but Chrysler only has to warranty "wearable items", such as brakes, wiper's, clutch, etc... for 12/12.

They should have replaced the rotor's instead of turning them. Once rotor's are turned they loose some of their ability to disapate heat...hence, they warp easier.

ALLWAY'S torque your wheels with a torque wrench! Never let a shop use an impact gun. Make sure and tighten them in a star pattern. Any of these things can, and will warp a rotor.

Good luck,
Jeff C.

I had this problem after my new rims were put on. At the time I didn't know a thing about brakes and they put the rims on with an impact gun. I'm currently in an auto class and have corrected the problem. I had "parrellism", where the rotor was different thicknesses all around. You can measure this with a micrometer. My thickest was .940 down to .936, a difference of .004. The allowable difference is .0005, giving me a "bucking" feeling when coming to a stop. I had the rotors resurfaced and this stopped the problem. It's only a couple of bucks to get them resurfaced. Oh, the minimum thickness is .890 Like Mopar-Maniac said, always use a torque wrench! Hope this helps!

My 1998 Dakota has ruined rotors at 12.8K & 22.5K. I went through the joke called "arbitration" and was told nothing was wrong with my truck. Thumbs up

I had the problem on my 2000 4x4. At 15000 km-9000 miles, they were so warped I hated to use the brakes. Dealer replaced them under warranty, no questions asked. Now have 47000 km-29000 miles and have not had the problem again.
You should have insisted on having them replaced, not turned.

I think i am finding out what you guys are talking about with these front brakes. I ahve close to 10,000 miles on my 2000 dakota and when i am light on the brake i am finding that pulsating feeling under my foot and in the floor boards. I am goign to wait a little longer before complaining.....and i am going to throw an indicator on them and check them for myself first. But we will see.

I have the same problem with my `01. It became noticable at about 400 miles. I'm not feeling the pulsing yet but they cause a loud clank every time the high side passes through the caliper during low speed braking. Combined with the other creaks and pops, it sounds like I just dropped the drive shaft each time I pull into my drive way. I'm confident that my dealer will take care of me once I go to the hassle of taking it in but I'm not pleased with DC's quality.
