Default kick down

hi guys, finally found and hooked up kick down linkadge on the cuda.Just wondering how mutch movement there should be on the actual transmission lever. Moves about 20 degrees. The end of the fork moves about 1 inch front to back. Seems to have postivie stops on both sides. Just wondering what is normal movement for the lever. By the way it is a big block 727 transmission. Thanks.

The linkage at the engine when the carb is wide open the throttle pin should push the KD link back to the point that if push the kd back there will no more than 1/8 inch between the back of the slot in the linkage and the throttle pin. Also make sure to have the small spring hooked up to the throttle pin to the KD linkage at teh belcrank so that the rear of the linkage slot is in constant progressive contact with the throttle through out the throttle movement. This is what controls the pressure in the transmission and controls the shift points.

This issue is frequently discussed here. It's a bit tricky if you're not familiar with the Torqueflite linkage and k/d setup. If you have access to a FSM it'll explain the details. DJM is correct regarding the spring on the throttle linkage. Whatever you do, don't run it without the k/d linkage - the transmission won't like that at all and will likely fry some clutches etc. Do a search here - Kunkel is pretty knowledgeable on Torqueflites and has posted proper linkage setups previously.
