Default torque converter recomendation

Hey all,
Need some help choosing a TC.

69 B body-3800lbs
451, ported iron heads, six pack, headers, Engle k56/58 (224, 230 at .050- 272 adv.- .504, .520 lift)
3.23 gears on 28's.

I can get a pretty good deal on a 3000 rated stall, but I think that might be a little too much for my gearing.
Whatcha think? opinions and recomendations please.

thanks

Who makes that converter?
A 3000 converter is not bad for your setup as long as it`s a "tight" 3000.
That is, it flashes to 3000 but, is fast to "lock up" under light loads.

Its a dynamic. its actually called the 3000, but its rated from 2600-3200. the guy Im getting it from says it stalled at 2800 behind his built 440 in a 67 B body.
So I think it should work pretty good in my setup.

If you can trust the guy, go for it.
Dynamic converters are one of the best.
Good Luck Steve

Default My converter

Is a 3000 stall with a 727, and 3.23 gears. It is coming out this week, and being replaced with an 1800 stall. There is so much engine rpm at cruising speed, it heats the tranny to where the cooler fan comes on. Way too loose for me. I turn 2000 at 40 mph!
If you plan to street cruise, I suggest that you consider that downside to high stall converters.

Phoning the manufacturer and getting THEIR opinion would be your ABSOLUTE best approach. Be carefull, they can talk for a long time, lol. But that converter sounds good for YOUR setup/kit.

If this is a race only deal get a 9" converter from Lenny at Ultimate Converter.

Just talked one of the guys at Dynamic. Nice guy and very informative. He actually suggested a 9.5 with around 3500-3800 would give me the biggest boost. For a little more street friendly, a 10 with 2800-3400. So even though he didnt suggest the one that I am getting (11 with 2600-3200), Im sure I should be fine with it.

Ive always heard that if you are unsure on the converter, its okay to go a step lower rather than take a step up.

And since Im getting such a good deal on the TC, it frees up some cash for a cooler. Thanks.

Put a new converter/oil seal in the transmission when doing the swap, and make sure there is no damage to the drive snout. happy trails.

That`ll be a good converter for you. With the big cubes and mild cam, it`ll work out great. Remember, any converter will stall higher behind a big cube, high torque engine than the same converter behind a high winding small block.
