Default billet distributor from 440source.com

Any good or bad reviews of the billett distributor from 440source.com? My buddy wants me to buy his, i currently have a mopar electronic distributor hooked to an msd 6 box. Dont have the funds for an msd distributor at this time. Should i buy his or just wait till i can get the msd one? And are they comparable?

Default Mopar

Distributors are very good units, and instead of spending too much money for something just as good, stick with the Mopar.

Default Depends

If you are afraid of too much advance from idle to WOT, then you won't need vacuum. Cetrifugal advance comes on slower, so low RPM advance will be delayed some.
Important thing is, with either method, the curve will be different. For centrifugal only, different springs and weights are used than with vacuum.
You will have to decide before you mess with the curve. I use 91 octane fuel, and with vacuum, I have no detonation at all. I'm at 9.75 CR.

Wow, what a lot of information, i also run premium fuel, at 10.5 cr. The problems i am running into right now, is at cruising speed, it seems like there is a hesitation, also when i step on it from a roll, or stop, it hesitates then kicks in. Like it loses power, then it comes back. My buddy suggested it was the distributor. i need to check the plugs as well, just havent had the opportunity yet.

That sounds like a carb related issue.

Agree. (I'm running a Mopar electronic re-man dist. with a Mallory HyFire and no issues with the ignition for the past 7 years)

The 440source distributor is a Pro-Comp 8000... Hey people may hate em.. but I'm running three of them.. two in big-blocks and my buddy has one in his 360.. We adore em for the price... We had no end of problems with reman's and stock distributors, because of the timing going all wiggy above 4,000, with these the timing comes in fully by 2,500, and is rock steady, plus it doesn't give too much advance either, which was a major problem we were having with the stock ones, that and they take on mud and water badly.. not a problem with the pro-comps though... knock on wood.... LOL

Oh I also agree your problem sounds more like a weak accelerator pump, than a distributor problem...

I have no issues with the 440source distributor. I just don't believe that it is the root cause of the problem.

If I read it right, your buddy has a 400source distributor that he is trying to unload. If that is the case, why is he trying to get rid of it?

Also, if your buddy is sure that his distributor will fix the problem, then he should be willing to let you install it and confirm one way or the other. If it fixes the problem, then buy it from him. If it doesn't, then reinstall your current distributor and troubleshoot the carb issue.

My mopar distributor with vacuum advance was giving me headaches. I eventually ditched the vacuum advance, which helped, then I went to an MSD billit distributor which helped even more. This was before I stroked the 440 to 496.

Thank you for all the help, he is getting rid of it, as his car wont be on the road anytime soon. He will let me try it, but has the male cap, and i need the female cap, or a new set of wires. Dont want to go thru with all that if it isnt the issue!! Gonna try a new set of plugs, should they be gapped larger, cuz of the MSD? Also, how would i check that accelerator pump, its an edelbrock, carb.

That right there is my biggest beef with the Eddy carb.. the tiny piss-ant accelerator pump... I'll say good luck, I've been messing with my 750 on a 440 for over a year now, and I still can't get it as good as I want...

With MSD dist and wires, I gap at .060. Also, on my 440 I had a new Eddy 750. A friend convinced my to try a race prepped 750 Holley DP, and boy did that 440 come alive!!! An easy 25 hp gain!!

I have an older Holley 750, that needs some work done to it. I am going to try and convince my buddy to let me use his demon carb to check out the difference in the motor. that way i can determine if it is the carb issue.
