Default Aluminum Water Pumps

Looks like my overheating problem maybe related to the pump. Anyone ever have any issues switching to an aluminum water pump? Any considerations when going to an aluminum pump?

Thanks

All small block water pumps are aluminum except very early years.

And to add, I don't think an aluminum pump will make a difference, what have you found that makes you think it is the pump?

replaced the T-stat and coolant. Engine runs about 180 for the first 20-30 mins then slowly starts to climb to about 210.

Does make a difference! My Magnum blaock does the same thing. Been told by a trusted radiator guy that Magnums do just that. Their cooling passage design was changed to improve smog specs.
The only thing I can add, is to check your timing. You might improve things if you bump the initial up to 12-14 degrees. Inproved mine some. What carb and jet sizes are you using?

Holding, then rising, sounds like a radiator issue, does it do it down the road, morning when it is cool, in the rain, cool off going down hill????

ALl very important questions.

I am running a Holley 650 DP with the factory jets. Need to get back to you on the timing. You are saying that advancing timing helped your temp issues?

it does it when early (and cool) in the morning, can drive it around town no problem but once on the highway for about 20-25 mins the temp starts rising. I have noticed that when getting off the highway and coasting down long hills, the temp does drop back down to about 190.

My roadrunner REQUIRES the shroud to be in place or gets real cranky in the heat department real quick. Without the shroud, the faster I go, The hotter it gets.

Sounds like a circulation issue, maybe in the radiator?

Could it be possible I have the wrong radiator in the car? Both hose outlets/inlets are on the drivers side....
