My 1998 Dakota with a 318 has a K&N cold air kit & Jacob's Electronic Pro-Street ignition system. Promised MPG gains have not been seen, instead a significant drop and bogs/lags unless under hard acceleration. Spark plug gap was set at recommended .060. Any ideas or recommendations? PLEASE HELP!!

I had the Jacobs on a 97 318 Dakota and until just recently it was on the 00. On the 97 I saw 2.5 mpg increase and an improvement in throttle response.I'd try decreasing the gap.Autolite 3923 at .055 worked well for me.

From my experience, any gapping over .050 provides no gains and can significantly hurt performance. Try gapping the plug .042 or.043. This has proven to be the best gap size for my 318. Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Jacobs DOES recomend gaps up to .060 and if you go to their site http://www.jacobselectronics.com/ there is an explanation why.Look in the FAQ section.

Hey Rodney,
MSD also recommends .050 - .060 gap been there done that, if you follow instructions you wont be happy. I have talked to several people with msd's and they all said dont gap according to the instructions. I have not found too many people that recommend Jacobs for dodge stuff, glad to hear that you had good luck with yours. Sorry, but i cant really help with your problem Jeff. I just wanna say I also have the jacob's pro street ignition. When I installed it I got champion truck plugs and gapped them to the .060. This is with my 97 318 ram. I have had no problems with it and the mpg increase was there and the extra low end power was amazing. I got the Jacob's because I know people first hand with it who love it and I also recommend it.
Jeff, did you try calling Jacob's and asking them. They were really helpful with me when I had some questions. Good luck, i hope it works out for ya. |
