Small Block Power
hey guys do you guys know of an enginge combo for my 340 in my 70 dodge challenger with 3:55 Posi and a 904 transmission with a 2800 stall converter and a shift kit id like to run high tens or low elevens id like to do this with out having to much of a radical cam one that is still streetable.

Better start off with a REAL light car if you want to keep those parimeters. |

Stroke it and add a procharger. After that, you will need to loose a lot of weight from the car. Pull all of the seats, except the drivers seat. No spare tire. Pull all of the door panels and carpet. Go with aluminum wheels.
You'll also need to upgrade the entire suspension. |

build a nitrous motor, yep nitrous would be easiest to make power and maintain streetability. and also stroke it.

Stroke it, take it from me, the 3.31inch stroke isn't street friendly making that kinda power.
Even a 360 will be so much easier. BUT, my idea of streetable is 1200rpm idle, 3k stall, 4:88's............... |

my idea of streetable is as long as you can take it out on the street burn about 5 gallons of fuel get on it a few times, do a couple burnouts, and hide it in the shed before the neighbors call the cops...

Yeah, pretty much, but then again, the motor in my one ton is more radical than most peoples street machines they think are "radical".
My last street car, eons ago, was a 600 lift solid roller 318. |

You're not being very realistic to think a 340/904 in a fairly heavy streetable car with 3.55 gears will run "high tens or low elevens". Just ain't happening. First problem is the trannie. 904s are not well suited to high horsepower use. A 727 wil live a lot longer! Second is the gears. You probably need to run 4.10 or higher. You'll probably need a higher stall converter. The (340) engine will need ported aluminum Edelbrock heads, or big port "Commando" aluminum heads, at least 12.5:1 compression ratio, 1.6 ratio roller rockers, a cam with at least .500 lift and around 290 duration, 1 3/4" equal length headers, 800 double-pumper carb, and a good single plane intake manifold. You might be able to run 11.50 with this combo, if everything is working right, and the rest of the car (suspension, tires, etc...) are set up right.

Nobody's got anything else to say about this? Where did 1970340t/a go?

All your parameters are unreasonable for both the et's and streetability!

Nothing left to say. Like you said it'll take a pretty radical n/a motor or a big hit of nitrous to push it that fast. Personally I plan on running a decent street 340 and using a shot of nitrous for the track. That hi 10 car will get tiresome if it's a DD type car.
