Elect fuel pump
I have been makeing my car more streetable .I removed my fuel cell and 280 gph pump from the trunk. It was so loud you couldent listen to the radio while it was running.I put a new tank in its factory location and a 130 gph Jegs pump in the back. My pump is about the same elevation as the top of the tank. About 1/2 of the time when I get on it good before I even shift from 2nd to 3rd the bowls in the 850 are empty and it falls on its face. I only have about 500Hp. Can it be the elevation of the pump? I have 3/8" pickup tube and 1/2" Line all the way up front to my regulator where it splits to go to the carb.I am thinking about going to a mech pump Summit sells a high performance mech pump but I dont know any one who has used one? Thanks for any advise.

Yeah, you're pump needs to be as close to the bottom of the tank as possible... pumps are much better at pumping than sucking...

ON my 600+ hp 496, I have a fuel cell with a Carter mechanical pump feeding an 850. Works fine for the street!

Elec fuel pump
Rampage is right. Electric pumps pump but don't suck. So pump has to be about level with bottom of tank and close to the tank. Electric pumps tend to be noisy. I have a Carter on my 5th av, which I mounted on a transmission mount. That damps out about 90 percent of the noise. An idea I had, which may not be necessary was to put an electric pump in the tank to act as a transfer pump. This is is what Volvo used to do. They put a 4.5 psi pump in the tank to bring the fuel to the high pressure pump mounted under the floor pan.

Thanks for the advice. I thought that might be the case.I guess it will have to siphen from the pickup conection on top of the tank to the pump when I lower it.I never had any problems when it still had no trunk and too much noise.I guess that is what I get for wanting a spare tire and radio.

I think I will lower it and add some rubber gromlets for now and look at a mechanical pump as a winter project. Thanks!

While your working on it,it might be an idea to increase the size of your tank outlet to one size bigger than your fuel line.electric pumps like the inlet to be bigger than the outlet(eg 5/8 in,1/2 out)

I would except I have gone back to a reproduction stock tank. I have the larger of the two pick up tube sizes avalible with my tank at time of purchace .The length of the 3/8" ID pick up tube is about 16" long From there to the pump is 1/2". It may come to finding a 1/2" pick up tube later. Thanks for the info.
