Default Dual quads on a 340?

Other than looking very cool, would there be any advantage/disadvantage to putting an old low-rise Offenhauser 2x4 "360 Equa-Flow" manifold and a pair of 500 cfm Carter AFB carbs on an otherwise mostly stock '69 340 motor. Also what would I need to hook up the throttle linkage and auto trans kickdown linkage? Thanks!

A friend had that setup on a 383, and all it did was use more gas.

For looks, ya dual quad is cool, properly setup single 4BBL runs better.
Want something really different?
Daul quad intake with 2 350cfm Holleys! Wow Factor is there.
Tune'um in and will run pretty darn good too!

I like Holleys too. But they won't fit... too long.

These are two Edelbrock 500's on my 360. While I have nothing scientific to prove it, I do have enhanced performance and of course, it looks cool.

Larry, that is a gorgeous car! I am not looking at putting a tunnel-ram like that on mine, just a low-rise manifold. What did you use for throttle linkage? And I can't tell if you are running an auto trans or not, but if so what did you do about the kick-down linkage? Thanks!

I ran two 500 cfm two barrel holleys on a offy low rise manifold on a mild 318. The torque curve was flat from 5000 to 7000. The front carb was modified to clear the rear carb float bowl. The linkage was lengthened to reach the front carb and a then a direct tie bar to the rear. In a 3000 lb dart ran 13.0s @ 101. Ran a tenth quicker with a holley 650 double pumper @ 103.

Sorry, I didn't catch the lowrise thing. I actually had the work done, so not sure how they rigged the linkage. It is auto and kickdown works fine. Good luck.

twin 4's and 6-packs look the best and perform well, but it's tough to beat the performance of a single 4-bbl. because the technology for the carbs and intakes is always being improved. in the case of dual quads and 3 deuces, its almost the same as it was 35-40 years ago..........djs

How about turning the carbs sideways I have seen them setup that way. With plenty of room in between them. Just an option.

The plenum on the offy manifold would have to be modified to turn Holleys sideways.

If I ever do it, I'll use the two 500cfm AFB carbs that Offenhauser recommends. They probably know best what'll work.
