Default trany help

help needed w/my 7272 in my ramcharger it has stopped pullin in drive and 2nd just slips,it will go just fine if i pull it down in low(1st) and it changes out fine ,kickdown works ok ,reverce is okwhen i come to a complete stop it just slips til i pull it back to low and shift it manualy,I can slow down and coast around corner and as long as i dont come to a complete stop its ok. did i break a sprag or band? will it have to be completly torn down to replace if trhats what happened? any ideas?

You have a failed overrunning clutch (sprag). The sprag is only used in 1st gear in Drive, when the shifter is placed in 1 the rear band applies and takes over the function of the sprag.

The sprag is located in the rear of the case so the internal components must be removed to gain access. In many cases when the sprag fails it damages the case and a bolt-in sprag can sometimes be used to get by.
