Rearend/pinion Question
I messed up when I ordered my axles or the shop that narrowed my rear messed up. Which ever it is, at this stage it dosen't matter , its been over a year since I had it made.
The problam is the pinion is 1/2 inch to the left of the stock position. Is this a problem? It looks like I could use a 1/4 spacer on the left side, making the offset only 1/4". I haven't welded the perches on yet so I can fudge alittle. |

I guess if there is room for the driveshaft I wouldn't worry about it. I believe it was AMC that had a rear axle where the differential was offset. Kinda looked like the front axle out of a pickup.

You should be able to just weld the perches where you need them.
A factory dana is offset. An 8 3/4 has axles the same length, but the pinion isn't centered on the pumpkin. |

Yes, the original is offset about 3'' to the right to line up with the tranny pinion but my new rearend is offset only 2 1/2''. It dosn't seem like much but I wonder about it with the vertical pinion angle being so critical (from what I've read) a 1/2'' out on that would be bad. Is the horizontal angle as critical?

My race car the reaend moves side to side like oh, ten inches, I wouldnt worry about it. I have no problems, now pinion angle is where the attention needs to be put.
