Default 400 buildup Q's

Anybody do a mild buildup on a 400 using the kb240 pistons? deck height? compression? Haven't been able to find anything on this combo, and there is very little info about this piston. Any info appreciated.

If you don't have pistons, why buy 400 pistons? to keep the 400 a 400? The 400 has a cast crank not the best piece.Keep your 400 block & Pick up a set of pistons & a 440 forged crank and do a "cheapo stroker" 451 cubes. The pistons are an off the shelf item from several different piston companies. 440 source has the pistons in their online catalog. www.440source.com

I'm leaning towards a stroker, seems everyone raves about 440 source. Their kits pretty much a drop in like they claim?

Exclamation

for the most part there stuff is pretty good. but don't expect to use their heads for more than about 500 or so ponies without doing a lot of work to them.(i can't wait for eddy to release their new extreme series heads!) i had to replace the valve guides in a set that were only used for part of one season and they can't/won't supply the guides! every set of there heads i've seen/used has serious issues with intake pushrod to runner clearance. they need a good port job to flow anything better than a dead stock 906. i also had a frost plug pop out of one at the 1/8th mile on a 1/4 mile pass which hurt a lot of stuff from the over heating that followed. they were a little bit helpfull with that issue but they should have done more. and, they couldn't supply a replacement frost plug. as for their other parts, i find the rotating assemblies are very good quality, and the billet pieces are really good, except the distributors, i had trouble with 2 of them but they took them both back and allowed me to use the $ i paid for them to buy other products. the other thing that's happened recently is that they are now owned by an investment group who seem to care nothing about the customer, only profits. you can tell when talking to their sales reps, the deals and substitutions they were able to do just don't happen any more. having said all that, i will still use their products, you just have to realise the limitations and deal with it..........djs
