Hemi fuel pump shaft - which end is up???
couple of questions:
66 426 stock hemi engine - no fuel to carbs.... is there a strainer in the tank? Do they get clogged up? I removed the fuel pump, and then the allen screw and the shaft then fell out one end is grooved - which end goes back in toward cam? is there a way to bench test a fuel pump - how do you tell if its bad? what is most likely the problem? thanks, Trip |

There is a strainer in the fuel tank, and if the car is from the 60s or 70s, it could easily be clogged up by now. And I think if it was me, I'd just find a new fuel pump and keep the old one for a core.

hemi fuel pump rod grooved? If it has a groove on the end, put it toward the fuel pump as the smooth end rides on an eccentric. Bench test a fuel pump: chuck it in a vice and operate the arm while holding fingers over the in/output ports. One should blow on stroke, and one should suck on rebound. If it has a seperatable body, there are 2-3 check valves in there that can be replaced, they are just pressed in and are made of a rubber flapper valve.
