383 with sealed power CS-661 cam
I just had my 383 motor rebuilt and am troubled. The business builds pro stock race motors and i asked them to rebuild my 383 with a cam a step or two above the stock cam. (Wanted that slight lope) I found out that he used a sealed power CS-661 cam and from the specs i can find it appears to be much less lift and duration than even a stock cam. Possibly very anemic.
Car is 4 spd-10.5:1 compression 3.23 rear I am two weeks away from firing this thing up. Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks |

I can't find the specs for the CS-661 other than what engines it fits. Summit has a Sealed Power cam called ZCS-661 (or SLP-CS-661) that says it's the factory high performance cam. I'm not sure what the Z in the part number means but I suspect it's the same cam. The magnum cam is pretty strong in a 383. They are easier to over cam than a 440. The Lunati replacement for the magnum cam is bit more modern and radical but not a lot of lope. It's about perfect for a 383. For a fairly lopey cam that is still very streetable is the 224/234/.465"/.488"/114 Summit cam.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-6401/ Here's my favorite 383 cam. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/LUN-10305LUN/ The stock magnum cam isn't bad though. |
