You can fence in about a half acre with invisible fence, (electronic fence) for about $500 if you do the work yourself. Beyond that it's hard to get cheaper than chain link fence.

Default No such word as CHEAP anymore

Don't know how long or how high.... but over a short distance [20-30 ft.]... maybe a framework of glued pvc pipes 6 or 7 ft. tall lashed to your existing steel uprights with horizontal support and some tight close-knit netting attached with nylon ties might discourage your dog. I spent $1500 in materials this summer to convert 90 ft.of 4'chain link to 6' high and then use the 4' link to extend the fence another 60 ft. to protect the rest of my property from my new neighbors! Good fences help keep the peace.... Much more from them and....is there a prison forum on Moparchat???

Once you get high enough, the dog will learn to dig under it...... Owned lots of dogs, including 2 Siberean Huskies (greatest escape artists of all time) and a 140lb Bernese mountain dog that knew the laws of physics.

Barbed wired works.
