oil pressure
quick ?
fire up my 440 oil pressure shoots up to 75-80psi. warm it up run for a while idles around 40psi. no problems there. everyonce in a while thou after it runs the mechanical guage bounces at idle from say 40-60 real fast. is that common with the mechanical gauage or could i be having a problem inside? super fresh motor. not even 300miles on it yet, high volume pump, 8qt pan, etc all the goods. running 10w30 quakerstate oil. never seems to make noises or miss abeat so i'm just curious. thanks |

Make sure you have a good quality filter like a Wix. No Frams unless they are the race versions.
If it still acts up, you can run another guage and see if it acts like the other. If it does, you might want to take out the relief valve/spring assy to check for trash or any burrs in the ball/seat. |

I think
Air in the gauge line. Bleed it at the gauge fitting.

So whats up with you guys not using Frams? Fram is the only filter that I use and have been for over 30 yrs and have not had any problems at all.

Fram
Worst filtering efficiency among the flock. In the case of the Cummins engine
failures attributed to the piston cooling nozzles, it was determined that Fram filters lost their sealing adhesive and plugged the nozzles. I have a simple solution to the filter debate. If it is a featured brand at big box stores, it is not worthy of purchase. Wix is a solid, good filtering, high quality filter, and private labeled as Car Quest and Mopar. For the Cummins, only Fleetgard from Cummins will do. |

The Cummins experience isn't a good example to use for condemning Fram, a lot of "good" filters aren't on the Cummins accepted list.

I had a Fram on my D200. The oil pressure would drop to almost 0 when idling and barely make 40 psi when cruising. Switched just the filter to a Purolator and the pressure was back up over 40 when cruising and around 20 idling. That was the last Fram I ever used.

I always used HP-1's until I read the oil guys article, now its either Purolator on my Mopar, or The free oil filter that comes with 5 quarts of oil from Auto-Zone for my Breeze, aka "Exxon Valdez" as it used to leave a 6 inch slick wherever I parked it. Turned out to be a leaking oil pressure sender..now its ATF

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX0xrqvlsNI The relief valve isn`t woth a sh!t and the media surface area isn`t is much as a Wix. Also, the outside metal construction isn`t as robust as a quality filter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BQha9MSM-U The RACE Fram is a good filter. The consumer line sucks. |

Heard a lot of good about Wix, and a lot of bad about Fram.
