carb/dist ?
took 86 carb truck and and a 84 carb truck to make one.86 truck v8 carberated had the old style intake mounted butterfly- choke, also had the electronic fast idle. with standard electronic dist no spark advance.long story short had to use wire harness out of 84 ,old style harness ran a 600cfm eldbrocke carb. had probs with the electric carb not having the correct harness. took one of my 1973 plain jain carb that works perfict.that came off electronic "non leanburn" motor with spark advance. park neutral runs perfict. down the road its slug ish caughs. checked all vack leaks all the normal stuff. do i need to install dist with spark advance.

Simple answer is YES. Check Mopar Action mag's website for tech info on vacuum advance pro's and con's, as well as do a search here. It's been well covered. (You didn't say what the "old-style" carb was - a Carter AFB?)
