The raised casting numbers are of limited use for ID purposes, the casting date 3x14x6 could be '66 or '76.
If there is a raised boss on the passenger side of the main case it is '68 or later and will have a build date stamped in it. If not, it's probably a '66 and can only be identified by input shaft spline count (18 or 23) and the tailhousing length. You'll find some useful info here: http://www.slantsix.org/articles/4-s...fourspeed1.htm |

You can also physically check the first gear ratio, that will help a bit...
2.66:1 is the early V8 ratio, 3.09:1 is the early slant 6 ratio (essentially, there was some mixing and matching) while 2.47:1 is the later ratio for all. An alloy case will be an overdrive unit, there is also the size of the bearing retainer to be considered. |

Well its a 23 spline short shaft, A body Trans. The 3x1466 is on the "drivers side" it is on a raised boss. There is a tag bolted on the case cover says 10 25 66, but dont know if thats a stock tag??

An October '66 casting date would be a '67 model year transmission.
