Default Added performance parts question

I have a stock 318 Poly, and I am just going for add-ons with no internal work. Such as a MSD ignition box, wires, and a 6al box... Weiand WPD4D intake with 2 Holley MN#4160's. What kind of HP gains would I be looking at when I'm done with just these simple things?

Propably not much without touching cam, heads, compression ratio and exhaust. If the engine currently works ok, maybe 20 hp?

For "Bolt-on" performance increases changing intake and exhaust flow offers best results. A nice set of headers. But don't make them too big. TTI can offer good suggestions.

best bang for buck. 1.5 % power increase for every 10 degree lowering of carb air inlet temp.
Lower it 50 degrees, then on a 400 horse engine, 7.5% increase would be 30 hp.

most newer single 4 barrels will make more hp then 2/4 barrels of the low riser design.most dyno test show 6 barrels make less hp then a good single plane manifold so why spend more money get less hp,more problems 2 carbs . A single 4 barrel duel plane man. 600cfm carb, headers, good ign system, adjust valve clearance to.005 int/.008ext to get max out cam also get new valve springs. total hp gain about 30 to40 max on a 318 poly.but no valve float until 7500 ?????

I never gained anything by switching to MSD. Plugs lasted longer in my old Hemi, but no power increase.

If the HEMI plugs last longer, then that is a power increase. Without MSD, 1960s HEMI plugs fouled a lot easier.

I sure felt the diff by going to MSD 6AL and MSD distributor. Also has rev limiter and custom timing curve. Can gap plugs to 60 thousands. Starts easier, and smoother power delivery up to 6500 rpm.

Also found this on the web:

It helps in 2 ways.

1) At low RPMs you can run a more radical cam, without stalling, etc, and make more power from complete combustion using the cam.

2) MSD provides MORE INTENSE spark at higher RPMS, allowing for more complete combustion with overlap.

You have dual exhaust? That's an "easy" improvement

On a similar note, I dropped my carb temps by building my own 1&3/8" wooden carb spacers. My carbs ran 180deg with a Swirl Torque spacer and after installing my own the carb temps dropped to 110deg. A 70deg drop aint bad! They were boiling the gas before. I also installed a Holley blue electric fuel pump, a 3/8" pick-up and line, and insulated the line around the engine bay as well as possible. I am currently building a hood scoop and will work out an airbox.

I don't think I would go 2x4's without cam, headers, stall converter, etc.. It can work but you will have to do a lot of tuning on those carbs. If you want "bling" for cruises, etc, then by all means do it. On a basic build I'd do a single 4bbl myself and I like the Eddy's because they are so user friendly and easy to modify endlessly.
