Default Adjust Vaccumm Advance on 383

Engine runs rough off idle when vaccumm advance is connected to electronic distributor. Engine smoothes out when vaccumm line is disconnected.

With 3/32 allen wrench which way should I turn adjustment ...are there automatic stops if turned too far?

What should the initial engine timing be set at before fooling with distributor advance?

Gene

Welcome to the board GENEMO.

Turning the wrench 1/2 turn clockwise is supposed to reduce the vacuum advance 2-3 crank degrees.

If there is vacuum at the timed port at idle, the carb butterflies are too far open at idle. If it runs rough with the vacuum advance hooked up, chances are the initial timing is too high.

Thanks John
The specs I have for initial timing are 2.5 digress BTD...Do you agree?
By your reply I see that I turned the advance sceww the wrong way, so now I need to put it back and check or reset the initial timing.

Is the port left open when the line is disconnected?

Keep in mind that the 2.5° initial advance spec is with the factory distributor, if the electronic distributor is MP it might not like it.

You are correct...I heard from a Jensen pro that 8 - 10 degress BTD is where I need to be
Thanks, Gene

Start with 10 before TDC.
Without vacuum advance, have about 34 to 36 BTDC at 3000 rpm.
