Default Damper Removal Issues

While I was dynoing my 440, I removed the damper for cam phasing roughly 4 or 5 times with no problems at all. Now that I have it back home, I'm taking it off again so I can change the timing cover gasket and for some reason, it just won't budge. I have even gone as far as heating the hub and using an impact gun with no luck. Any ideas?

If it were mine I'd just keep cranking on the puller. If my impact stopped then I'd start heating it and keep cranking on it. Sooner or later it's gotta pop. What did you do put some loctite on it?

Tighten the puller and hit the center bolt with a hammer, should pop it loose...

I have heated it and hit the hub with hammer. If I continue to crank on the puller, the ears start bending. It's not the highest quality puller and I am currently looking into buying a nice heavy duty one, but I still feel something isn't right.

You took the balancer bolt out right?

I had a timing gear that I just couldn't get off of a crank. Lucky for me I had the crank out anyways. I broke 1 puller and 2 sets of bolts. I had to use the 10 ton shop press to get it off.

Haha, I'm definitely doing it right. Like I said, while I had it on the dyno, I pulled it off 4+ times.

pushing it on with a little crud on the surfaces can make a huge difference in how easy it comes off.

What about running the engine to normal op temp, then try to pull off?

Get a propane bottle, spray the liquid propane directly in the bolt hole, it should shrink the crank but not the damper, has worked for me in the past...

Avoid sparks or any ignition sources at all costs!

Maybe dry ice will cool it as well.

I rented a HD puller from Advance Auto Parts Actually, they have a free loaner program. You "buy" it from them & if you return it undamaged they give you a full refund.

Could the threads in the crank be buggered-up? I had that happen once and it was a real nightmare.
