Default 1st time eng build

hi guys; actually its the second time. long story short. built the 440 about ten years ago with a mechanical cam and lifters. now looking to make it hydralic, (tone it down abit make it quieter) anyway bought new cam and lifters, are useing harland sharp adj rokers, questions are , can i use the same push rods if the lenghth is close ; what is the best way to pump up the lifters to get a good mesurement. is there any other things i shood worry about , moter was only ran for about an hour after break in. thanks for any help its really appreciated

Nope the pushrods for a solid lifter will be too long. you shouldn't need the lifters pumped up for a measurement.. the spring in the lifter should be more than plenty for that...

If I remeber correctly, the required pushrod length is 0.25" shorter with a hydraulic lifter. You propably could have your current pushrods shortened locally, just take the cups off, shorten them in a lathe and repress the cups to the tubes.

Typically valve spring strength can and will dictate lifter type and spec. I would make sure the valve spring strength is within the lifter's capabilities. Today's lifters do have a wider spring strength range, but hydralic lifters do use a weaker spring. It wouldn't be a bad idea to check the springs for tention and consistancy.
