What's it costing to put a new Hemi in an old car?
Say you had a truck 5.7l and wanted to install it in your '67 b-body. Anyone know what it costs for motor mounts, headers, tranny adaptor to a 727, associated installation parts, kit to adapt for carburetor use, etc.? In round numbers, anyhow. Is it a $3k job, or more? Anybody done one?

You don't need a transmission adapter, the small block 727 will bolt to the late Hemi but you'll need a special flexplate for the converter.
You can get a basic swap kit from these folks for under $2000: http://www.newhemiswap.com/b-body-conversion-kits.html |

Thanks, the adaptor I was thinking of is indeed just a flexplate. Looks like the $2700 kit would get you most of the way to actually having a drivable vehicle...not far off!

Another thing you'll probably need is an oil pan, I think the truck pan doesn't work in cars.
Another source of late Hemi swap parts is Bouchillon: http://bouchillonperformance.com/61LHemi.asp |

Thanks, John, I'd looked through their site before. Still don't know anybody who has done the swap.
Mine would be easy, no PS, no PB, no A/C, just want to run a carb. Seems it'd be easy to set up the electronics to purely control spark--duplicating the operation of a distributor as used in our muscle cars can't be mega-science. I'll have to call some of these guys if I get that far. Right now, just working through a cam swap in my 440. I pulled out the old cam and noticed the #3 bearing does not have its hole aligned with the oil feed hole at all. Gotta fix that. |

The flexplate will work too with a 11" or smaller converter if you cut the starter gear off. You definitely need another oil pan & pickup. Most likely you also need to relocate the oil filter, and of course headers & exhaust And motor mounts. If you are willing to use the EFI, you also need a pump & regulator set up, and the gas pedal box + kick down wire. Just recently completed such a swap, installing a 5.7+904 into a '78 Jaguar XJ6. It sure is a worthwhile swap, the thing is great fun now. We did all the work, mounts, oil pan, exhaust etc. ourselves, just tbought the wiring kit and the computer from Bouchillon performance. Here is a dark video of the first test drive, and some pics

Wow! You guys in Finland are pretty daring! A Jag with a 3G hemi - doubt I'll see anything like that around here. I do like that Jag's style, though it's too bad you couldn't have found one of the XJ 2-door hardtops to do. Good work!!
