Hey guys, what kind of car would you find an 8-3/4" rear end under? also, How do you tell by looking, if it has the tapered pinion, or straight pinion. I see that with the tapered version, you can get a few numbers lower gears than the straight version (or at least as far as summit and jeg's goes). Also, what kind of modifications will have to be made to replace a 7-1/4" with the 8-3/4 under an F-body? Thanks a lot!

The rear you need comes out of a B-body car.The 1 7/8 tapered pinion has a last 3 casting #489,the 1 3/4 has #742 and the old 1 3/8 has #741. Stay away from the #741,ring and pinions are difficult to find, and it's the weakest of the three.
