Take the lock cylinder to a locksmith and let him rekey it. It sound like it doesn't have much lubricant in it, causin it to freeze. It also sounds as if the pins are worn or the springs are weak.

You may want to check your local parts store for new locks. I picked up a set (ignition, doors, and trunk) for about $30.00 and have the trunk key matched to the door locks for $10 at the local key shop.

If mopar was still using the same locks in the 70's as they were in the 80's, than they are not very hard to work on at all. There is a metal "guard" on the top. This keeps the keyways in. Be careful when taking this guard off because the keyways have springs underneath them and the keyways will go flying everywhere and you'll never know which keyway went where unless you spend a little time matching them up to the key. Once you get the keyways out, go to your locksmith and buy some new keyways (shouldn't cost more than $5) and pop em. Lube it up with a little graphite and you'll be set. Hope this helps,

Arthur
