Default is this real?

I'm in the process of rebuilding a 440-6 from a 691/2 Super Bee, a real A12 car. I'm confused on a couple of issues, maybe someone knows whats up. This engine does not have the 6 pack (heavy) rods, and is equiped with a nylon cam gear and flat link chain. I always thot these engines had the heavier rods and a double roller chain. Also, the harmonic balancer looks like a normal internal balance type that you would find on a 4 bbl. 440. Anyone have any ideas if this is correct? thx.....djs

It should have those items if it's a 440-6, could you write down the casting numbers on the block and any other markings that you could find and post here?
My old 70 Roadrunner had those items when I rebuilt the engine, but maybe someone rebuilt yours later with cheaper parts...

I was under the impression that the 69 1/2 engines were all internal balance but I could be wrong over the years. My 70 was certainly external, no doubt about it.

You can tell by looking at the flywheel / dampener, and it "should" vibrate badly if it has the incorrect rods

i've done the numbers and dates and they all point to it being correct. owner says it has about 40,000 miles on it, and it was never out of the car till now. cam is a single bolt, should it not be 3 bolt like a hemi?

The '69 440-6 was identical internally to the 440-4 with the exception of the higher compression pistons, the heavy rods and 3-bolt cam with its double-row timing chain didn't arrive until '70.

That is my understanding and the way mine was. You know the old saying about Mopars, "never say never".
You've to to wonder though, btw, is he the original owner? These cars have been around a long time, many had replacements done at the dealership due to excessive use. I guess the question is, did any six barrels get built with a standard 440 bottom end and I assume flywheel/torque converter as well. I remember the damper at the front of the crank was much larger on mine too.

thanks for clarifying John, and yup, never say never is right! this car was purchased new by the current owners brother when it was brand new. he says it was driven about 10 -12 years and then parked. he bought it from his brother many years back and is finally going to resto it and put it back on the street where it belongs. thanks to all who responded..........djs
