Default '71 charger

This may not be "performance" talk but I just wanted some input from other people. I want to paint my '71 charger blue when the time comes but I cant really decide on a specific blue. The hood, stripes down the side, and go spoiler are going to be flat black and its going to have a black vinyl top. The interior would also be black as well. I just saw a 2012 challenger with the "blue streak" paint job and was thinking it would look good on my '71 charger. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yep. The original "B5" Blue, that's the best color for these. They called it True Blue Metallic, Blue Fire Met., or Bright Blue Met. back in '69/'71. I personally don't like "new car" colors on old cars. And the B5 blue on the 2011 Dodges is not exactly like this:

yeah i see your point that is very true. The charger is/was originally B5 blue, you can see the color perfectly in spots in the engine compartment. I like B5 blue but was there any blue that was a little darker other than B5?

There was a "B7" blue that is a little darker. It was called Evening Blue, Jamaica Blue, or Dark Blue Met.

Another option; I talked to my paint mixing guy, and asked that he use the coarsest metallic he could instead of the original metallic when he did the mix. I came out with a blue much darker than the original blue, with some nice metallic when you looked close.

I can't find a scanned pic of the '69 Superbee I had it on right now, but I'll look later and try and get a pic of it scanned.

Dude... I am a little bias cause my car is Petty Blue. The story goes that Richard Petty had half a car worth of white paint and half a car worth of blue paint. He mixed the two together and came out with something like STP blue. You prolly knew that story, but I like the history behind the paint. Moreover, your car benefits from Petty's favorite car: 3rd Gen Charger. It defiantly is a Mopar color and a very pure paint.

@Buckneccid that sounds like it came out pretty sweet, that would defientely be something I'll look into.
@ Bronco I've always liked Petty Blue and I do like the way Petty's charger looked back in the day. I just dont know how the blue will look in contrast with the black stripes and hood. But anythings possible!
