another carb?
i have a 1975 360 with very low miles that i just freshend up gaskets, pump, chain, lifters. i droped it in my 78 b body.the lean burn system has been removed, now electronic. put a reman holley carb for my 78 360 on it.carb works great when parked never hesitats , no dead spot, from idle to wide open works great. driven down the road i kick down the engine bogs down let of gas or feather it comes back. hav ajusted air/fuel screws. dont think gas lines are calapsing new fuel pump, could the stock carb not keep with fresh stock engine. or do i need to ajust the acelerator pump richer?

Did you put a reman 2-barrel on? Do you have ported vacuum to the distributor? If you don't that might explain the bog under load.

secondaries opening too soon? vac sec or mechancal?

It's the power valve. Since it works ok otherwise, probably not float level or accelerator pump, which would bog on acceleration at any level. Is there a warranty on the reman? Backfires will do in holley power valves.

If that's the right smog-legal replacement carb for a lean-burn (78) 360, it likely only has a full (manifold) vacuum source, not ported vacuum. . A ported vacuum source has no vacuum at idle, and the timing will be at initial advance, where it should be. If you're running manifold vacuum to the distributor, it will be at full vacuum advance when idling, and may cause the bog under load. It'll seem fine when you rev it in neutral, because there is no load. And if I don't have this quite right, someone please correct me

My guess is that the secondary spring is too light....

OK, that sounds like it is a ported vacuum source. Must be something else, I guess. Is your initial timing set correctly? Mine likes around 12 deg. at idle, but it has a mild cam, Thermoquad 4-bbl, and headers. You can find lots more info on initial timing setup around here, if you're not sure how to do it. Also, it could be the second barrel is not opening correctly as rampage suggested, but I'm not familiar with Holley smog-legal 2-barrel carbs.

Sorry I was thinking 4 barrel carb.... If you are dealing with those infernal "holley" (Actually a carter) 2 barrel, then the problem I almost will guarantee the problem is the accelerator pump... They do not have a very big shot, and frankly I've never seen one that acted correctly, I.E. one that will start without the choke, or does not stumble on acceleration... BTW if it was an actual Holley 2bl (2300 style), then it is easy to deal with the accelerator pump shot...

two questions does it still have a lean burn dist. because they dont have mech. advance, just vacuum adv. also did you change transmission kick down rod, if not set correctly it can up shift to soon and not down shift causing engine to bog down on quick acceleration.
