btw we're doing a set of magnum r/t heads for my dad's race car and he had a guy lap his valves and he ported the intake ports and left em kinda rough and i got really p-o because to me i've always thought you were suppose to make em smooth as a babys butt, and he had em rough

I've heard intake manifold rough, to help atomization, and intake ports on heads smooth, to increase charge velocity.
But it may only be a minor diff on the dyno. |

Yes there are different thoughts on this, and it probably isnt worth enough to fret over, and unnoticable unless doing dyno work. I have heard the same as the previous poster, i've heard that smoothing the complete intake runner isnt the way to go, just a clean-up knock down the big imperfections, as the rough surface helps with atomization of the fuel. The exhaust side is the one that benefits from the TRUE port POLISH. So most of the time i leave the intake side basically alone other than gasket matching and clean up, and spend the serious time on the exhaust side....
