storing an engine block
I picked up a standard bore 340 block over the weekend. I just wanted one for a spare. They are getting harder and harder to find. I was told that greasing it up good sometimes won't even stop the rust. I was thinking of using a spray grease such as a white lithium grease. I have it cleaned up pretty well and oiled and and its sitting on a engine stand covered with a heavy duty garbage bag right now. Anyone know of a better way to store an engine block?

I grease (chassis grease) all of the machined surfaces and then but the block in a heavy plastic bag with a coupe bags of dessicant...before closing the bag I hook up the shop vacuum and suck the air out before twisting the end of the bag to close it.

Those are those little bags of stuff that ya see packed in some electronics boxes, and other things that says "Do Not Ingest" on the packaging.... Its a moisture 'catcher'....

Thanks John, Sounds good and I forgot about using bags of dessicant. Good idea.
