Question

Why is it there doesn't seem to be any 1/2" oil pickup tubes for small blocks? Every big block build up I've ever read tells you to get a 1/2" Hemi tube in there right away. So why not small blocks? They rev higher, right?
They can get HV oil pumps, right? They can have the oil passages drilled out for more flow, so why not a bigger pickup tube? I guess I'd have to make one if I want it, then drill and re-tap the pump threads.
Anyone know where I can find them?

Look at the big block oiling path. From the pickup to the pump is considerably longer than an LA motor. Longer=more restriction given the same diameter.

there are/were dual pickup kits for the LA pump but unless you plan to run past 6000 rpm don't waste yout money. If you do plan to run past 6000 then I highly suggest you do the mods in the MP engine book.

Big blocks may have a longer path, but a small block with a deep pan, as on a racing engine, would also have a pretty long pickup tube. Besides, a bigger tube is a bigger tube, and as much as some people like to build up small blocks, I can't believe they'd be satisfied with a stock oil pickup tube which I think in a performance application would be marginal at best.

I love small blocks and have built several. I use the 3/8 pickup tubes in all my motors with the race modifications of course, but have had no starvation problems. I usually turn 7000-7500 rpm with no trouble. Just make sure you use a "high volume" pump. The P4286589 Mopar Performance pump works fine.
What setup are you running? Wedgehead

Morroso has a 1/2 pick up that is for thier 8 qt pan but it necked down to the stock 3/8 at the threads where it screws into the pump. So it's really of no benfit to have the 1/2 tube at all since it's necked down and the flow will be the same as the smallest point in the system.

we run the morroso 8 qt pan and pick up in our race cars with the stock oil pump. we shift at 7000 rpms and go thru the traps at 7500+ and have had no oil related probs. the oil pressure thru the traps is 65lbs and thats more then enough to get the job done.

I don't remember the size but my Kevco pickup tube is built on to the pump bottom plate I think it is 1/2 though, have to plug the stock pick up hole in the pump
