Got a couple of questions about my Challenger to verify it's authenticity as an R/T...The fender tag, VIN and door tag all match up with designations as an R/T.

My Challenger has the blacked-out center of the hood and a solid, no breaks in it, black stripe down the side of the car with a break near the rear wheel where the R/T decals are and a bumble bee stripe across the back of the trunk. Is this proper for a '71 R/T Challenger?

Do R/T Challengers have the R/T emblem in the front grill?

Do all R/T Challengers have the tail pipes running through the rear roll pan?

Do all R/T Challengers have chrome wheel welll trim?

thanks,
ART

Hi Art,
Do the body stamped numbers on the backside of the radiator yoke (usually between the top radiator tank and the backside of the rad support on drivers side match as well as the the cowl numbers stamped just ahead of the drivers side wiper arm, before the hood weatherstrip?
I'm assuming the vin is js23.
R/T stripe for 71 was two wide stripes starting at top of fender and ending just behind doors with the r at the end of the top stripe and the t at the end of the bottom stripe.
Only other stripe ive seen was the hood blackout and or R/T decal on the hood for 71.
R/T's have a black grille instead of argent,
and will have dual chrome tips in the cut-outs of the roll pan unless it was a noise reduction package car, option code N97, and then it will have downturned pipes with no cut-outs. Can't say for sure about the wheel well trim as I don't have the salesmans brochure on this car for packages like that.
According to galens white book only 4,630 71 R/T were built for US markets.

Hope this helps
