Question

I`ve recently rebuilt my 383 with all the standard high performance parts and i upgraded the stock ignition with a MP elec.ignition.The problem is that sometimes the engine will fire up and sometimes it doesn`t.I allready tried with a different control box but that made no difference.
Is there someone familiar with this problem or does anyone have a good suggestion?
Hope someone can help me.

Did this problem ever exist prior to conversion to electronic ignition? I've had ignition switches go out and lead to that condition. When you can't start it with the key, can you start it by jumping the starter relay? Obviously, there is a short somewhere. When it doesn't fire, do you hear the starter relay "click" over? Any noise from the starter?

I had the exact same thing happen.
Checked everything, timing, spark plugs, changed this, changed that. Cranked fine, sometime it would spark sometime not. I then put a charger on the battery to keep it topped off, and after a little while of charging, it kicked over. Just a thought

Did you check the air gap on the dist pick-up to reluctor(.008")? Does your ballast resistor get bypassed when the key is in the crank position?

Just some thoughts.

Sounds like the Ignition switch is going bad. I had to replace one on my RR. Got 12v while I was cranking here and as soon as i letoff the starter she would die. Lost the 12v signal to the coil.
